Severn Harmony

Ladies Barbershop Chorus

About Us

Singing at Shrewsbury Big Busk 2019

Severn Harmony Ladies’ Barbershop Chorus is a ladies chorus founded in 2009, which sings in barbershop style and is based in Wellington, Shropshire. We enjoy singing at private and public events in the area.

The club meets most Monday evenings from 7.30pm until 9.30pm at the Methodist Church in Wellington, Shropshire, and is now under the musical direction of Monica Funnell.

Monica brings a wealth of experience from her involvement in the Ladies’ British Barbershop Association.  As an accomplished quartet singer, Monica is also a registered judge within LABBS Education and Judging programme and directs the Crystal Chords Ladies’ Barbershop Chorus, based in Stockport.  Her motivating, good-humoured style really makes learning fun!

Prospective members are encouraged and welcomed to come along to one of our Monday rehearsal nights, to join in and find out more about our friendly and fun Barbershop style of singing A-Capella (without accompaniment).

From the beginning of 2017, we made the decision to become an ‘auditioned’ group. This means that before being asked to become a full member of the chorus, ladies will be required to undertake a short voice audition with our Musical Director. This would ideally take place in the first month after expressing a wish to join us. Audio ‘Teach Tracks’ are provided as well as the printed music, for each of the four sections, so the ability to sight read music is not necessary, (although being able to follow the notes is a useful skill, as we develop the music).

Each year we nominate a charity and this year we are raising funds for the

Telford Young Carers Service.
